Relations between Communist Party of Viet Nam and Communist Party of Cuba strengthened

From May 12 to 16, a high-ranking delegation of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV), led by Prof, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, participated in the 6th Theoretical Workshop between the CPV and the Communist Party of Cuba (CPC), attended the 2nd International Scientific Conference titled “Fidel Castro–Ho Chi Minh: Revolutionary Vision”, and conducted an official visit to Cuba.

Speaking during a reception for the delegation on the afternoon of May 14, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez affirmed that the Cuba–Viet Nam relationship is a unique and exemplary model, built and nurtured on a foundation of shared values, deep trust, and mutual respect, and tested over 65 years of history. He agreed that both Parties and States would continue to prioritise strengthening and expanding this special friendship.

Key leaders of Cuba expressed keen interest in Viet Nam’s current affairs, particularly in the implementation of major policies on streamlining and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the state apparatus, accelerating socio-economic development, renewing the Party’s leadership methods, and preparations for the 14th National Congress of the CPV. They sincerely extended congratulations and conveyed their confidence that the Vietnamese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, led by General Secretary To Lam, will successfully enter a new era of development.

In a meeting with the high-ranking CPC delegation led by Roberto Morales Ojeda, Politburo member and Permanent Secretary of the CPC, both sides agreed to strengthen delegation exchanges at all levels and effectively implement information and experience-sharing activities, particularly in socio-economic leadership and management, during the preparations for each Party’s Congress in 2026. The two sides also emphasised the importance of the two ruling Parties in guiding and promoting high-level agreements and bilateral cooperation programmes and projects.

Prof, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang affirmed that the Party, State and people of Viet Nam remain steadfast in giving high priority to promoting the special solidarity and friendship with Cuba, supporting the Cuban people’s socialist cause under the leadership of the CPC, and the just struggle to demand the lifting of the blockade and sanctions, and to remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

Prof, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang highly valued the recent positive developments in the comprehensive cooperation between Viet Nam and Cuba. He also discussed with senior Cuban Party and State leaders specific measures to overcome difficulties and effectively implement joint projects, investments, and joint ventures between enterprises of the two countries in such areas as agriculture, energy, pharmaceuticals, construction materials, and consumer goods production, contributing to enhancing the quality of bilateral cooperation.

During the visit, Prof, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang co-chaired the 6th Theoretical Workshop between the two Parties, themed “The Communist Party’s role in formulating and implementing strategic socio-economic development policies in line with socialist orientation.”

Delegates at the workshop exchanged views and discussed several topical and important issues relating to each Party’s revolutionary cause in the current period. These included leadership and direction in strategic socio-economic policymaking in the new development era; policies and decisions on the development of state, private and FDI sectors; youth leadership in national socio-economic development; experiences in leading the fight against corruption, wastefulness and negative social trends; and political and ideological work among young people.

While in Cuba, the CPV delegation attended the 2nd International Scientific Conference “Fidel Castro–Ho Chi Minh: Revolutionary Vision” held at the Nico Lopez Party School to mark the 135th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh. The event gathered numerous senior leaders of the Cuban Party and State, along with more than 400 participants, including lecturers, students, researchers and representatives from 20 ministries and sectors.

On this occasion, Prof, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang delivered a policy speech on the theme “A new era of development – The awakening of the Vietnamese nation: Theoretical and practical issues” at the headquarters of the Central Committee of the CPC.

The Vietnamese delegation laid wreaths at the Monument of President Ho Chi Minh and the Monument of National Hero Jose Marti, visited and worked with organisations, enterprises, and cultural and ideological institutions in Havana, and held meetings and discussions with officials of the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Cuba.
