Politburo member Nguyen Xuan Thang, head of the CPV delegation, delivers a speech at the workshop
The Cuban delegation was led by Roberto Morales Ojeda, Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee.
The Vietnamese delegation was headed by Politburo member Nguyen Xuan Thang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council. The workshop was also attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba La Quang Long, senior Party officials, leaders of central agencies, and researchers and theorists from both countries.
In his opening remarks, Roberto Morales Ojeda stressed that sharing experiences and theoretical and practical issues in the socialist building process in Cuba and Viet Nam is an important part of the bilateral Party cooperation, contributing to deepening mutual understanding and further consolidating the special friendship between the two parties and peoples.

The workshop focused on key aspects of socialist construction, including the party's leadership in economic processes, experiences and lessons on state and non-state economic management, and ideological work among younger generations.
Morales Ojeda emphasised that the sixth theoretical workshop is a clear manifestation of the increasingly close, traditional solidarity between the two parties — serving as a model for cooperation between like-minded political forces in an increasingly complex world.
At the workshop, Nguyen Xuan Thang underlined the CPV’s critical role over its 95-year history, leading Viet Nam’s revolutionary cause from victory to victory. Since its founding in 1930, the CPV has grown in maturity, wisdom, and capability, fulfilling its leadership mission and earning the trust of the people.
Overview of the event
During the renewal process, the CPV has led the nation through numerous challenges, achieving significant, historic socio-economic progress and safeguarding the socialist homeland. Viet Nam now enjoys unprecedented strength, stature, and international prestige.
He shared key strategic decisions made by the CPV in recent years to drive socialist-oriented development, noting that after four decades of renewal, Viet Nam is confidently entering a new era of national development with two major strategic goals: becoming a modern industrialised nation with upper-middle income by 2030, and becoming a high-income developed country by 2045.
To achieve these objectives, the CPV has prioritised economic restructuring and a new growth model centred on science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation, with close links to green transition, circular economics, and support for new business models. These strategic directions are clearly reflected in the draft political report for the CPV’s 14th National Congress.

Nguyen Xuan Thang also highlighted three key revolutionary transitions currently led by the CPV: reorganising the political system for efficiency; fostering scientific and digital transformation as a top breakthrough to modernise production and improve economic competitiveness; and promoting the private sector as a vital driving force of Viet Nam’s socialist-oriented market economy.
On behalf of the Vietnamese party, state and people, he expressed deep gratitude for Cuba’s heartfelt support during Viet Nam’s resistance war against the US. The iconic statement by leader Fidel Castro — “For Viet Nam, Cuba is willing to shed its blood” — remains a powerful symbol of international solidarity cherished by generations of Vietnamese.
Since its inception in 2012, the theoretical workshops between the CPV and CPC have become an important platform for sharing experiences in building socialism suited to each country's unique conditions.
