The Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics organised the scientific seminar “Declaration of Independence – Historical Document Opening the Era of Independence, Freedom, and Happiness of the Vietnamese Nation” in Ha Noi on the morning of August 27.

Overview of the scientific seminar “Declaration of Independence – Historical Document Opening the Era of Independence, Freedom, and Happiness of the Vietnamese Nation”

The seminar was a practical activity to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and President Ho Chi Minh’s reading of the Declaration of Independence, which gave birth to the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam, now the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam (September 2, 1945–September 2, 2025).

The Declaration of Independence in 1945 was a heroic epic opening a new era of the Vietnamese nation – the era of independence, freedom, and happiness, national independence closely linked with socialism. This was a particularly significant event in the historical process of the Vietnamese nation; a milestone in the history of the struggle of peoples of colonies and dependent countries for the sacred values of humanity: independence, freedom, and happiness.

According to Prof, Dr. Le Van Loi, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, the Declaration of Independence in 1945 was the inheritance, promotion, and elevation to a new height of the thousand-year tradition of resilient, indomitable struggle to build and defend the country of our people. It was the pinnacle of creativity, intelligence, and the unparalleled resources of a heroic, civilised Vietnamese nation.

The victory of the August Revolution demonstrated that the path of national salvation based on Marxism-Leninism had, for the first time, succeeded in a colonial country, and also proved that national liberation revolutions could successfully triumph before proletarian revolutions in the metropole, positively impacting revolutions in the metropole. At the same time, it affirmed the correct practice of the Vietnamese revolutionary path defined by our Party, President Ho Chi Minh, and the Vietnamese people, successfully proving the line of closely combining national independence and socialism.

From many angles and scientific arguments, the seminar focused on analysing and further clarifying the great ideological, theoretical, and practical values of the historical document that opened the era of independence, freedom, and happiness of the Vietnamese nation, highlighting the inheritance and promotion of the will and determination to firmly safeguard the newly gained independence and freedom through struggles that defeated invasion wars carried out by forces possessing far more modern military power than Viet Nam.

The seminar collectively evaluated the Declaration of Independence as the crystallisation of a typical event in the mutual relationship among revolutions and nations, a model of the combination of national strength and the strength of the times. The impact of these great political events was immense in the historical process of the nation, as well as for the global revolutionary movement.

This was a revolution led by the Communist Party, the first revolution to successfully overthrow colonial rule, ending the colonial period and opening the age of decolonisation.

The seminar affirmed that the Declaration of Independence is the torch lighting the path for the cause of building and safeguarding the Fatherland of socialist Viet Nam today and in the future. The reality of the past 80 years proves that, by promoting the immortal spirit of the Declaration of Independence, under the flag of independence and freedom, the Vietnamese revolution has continuously achieved victories of historical significance and epochal stature.

In the context of facing many difficulties and challenges over the past years, the whole Party, people, and army have always upheld the spirit of self-reliance, self-confidence, self-strength, national pride, and the aspiration for national development, closely combining national strength with the strength of the times, strongly renewing thinking, and determinedly implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress; striving to successfully realise the goal that by 2045, Viet Nam will become a developed, high-income nation oriented towards socialism, standing shoulder to shoulder with the great powers across five continents, as the cherished aspiration of beloved President Ho Chi Minh and the common desire of our entire nation.
