In their recent messages to young Vietnamese people on the occasion of the 94th anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, March 26, General Secretary To Lam and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highlight the crucial role of youth in Vietnam’s new era of development. This followed the Politburo’s adoption of Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in science and technology, development, innovation, and national digital transformation.

Young people, who comprise about 20% of Vietnam’s population, are the main resource for building new production forces and the pioneers of emerging fields.

Young people’s contributions to digital economy

The younger generation, born into an age of science, technology, and digital transformation, is the key force. Their great creativity stands at the forefront of research, development, and the application of digital innovations.

Vietnamese youth have led numerous AI and digital technology projects, attracting tens of millions of dollars’ worth of investments. Notable digital startups founded by young entrepreneurs include Momo – a widely used e-wallet platform, Base.vn – a business management solution, and Got It – an innovative knowledge-sharing platform. Many young entrepreneurs have established successful digital businesses, such as Tiki.vn, the Be Group, and the VNG Corporation. They play a crucial role in Vietnam’s digital economy.

Young Vietnamese people are also the vanguards in cultural preservation through digital initiatives. Many have worked on digitizing Vietnam’s cultural heritage and promoting traditional arts like Chèo, Tuồng, and Cải Lương via online platforms. Many young artists have attracted record numbers of views by blending folk and contemporary music.

Youth-led volunteer initiatives associated with digital transformation are making meaningful contributions to society, such as the Global Network of Young Vietnamese Intellectuals and the Digital Literacy for All program.

Each year, tens of thousands of Vietnamese students take part in international exchange programs, foster academic collaboration, and pursue studies abroad. Many young Vietnamese scientists have conducted cutting-edge research, earning international recognition.

20 million young people to shape Vietnam’s global posture

Vietnam is targeting a growth rate of 8% in 2025 and double-digit growth from 2026 to 2030. By 2045, the 100th anniversary of the nation's founding, Vietnam aspires to become a high-income developed nation. To achieve that ambitious goal, science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation must be the key drivers of progress.

Vietnam needs a generation of young people who are intelligent and globally competitive in advancing science and technology, innovation, and national digital transformation, and realizing Politburo Resolution 57, National Assembly Resolution 193 on piloting some special mechanisms and policies, and Government Resolution 3 on an action program for implementing Resolution 57.

Vietnam’s 20 million young people are expected to stay ahead of global technology trends—especially in AI, big data, and the digital economy—and effectively engage in scientific research, startups, and technological applications across socio-economic sectors.

At the 9th National Congress of the Vietnam Youth Federation for the 2024-2029 term last December, General Secretary To Lam said: "The Party and State have great confidence in the younger generation and consider them central to Vietnam’s future. The success of Vietnam’s youth is the success of the Party, the triumph of the revolution, and the vitality of the nation."

At the 2025 Dialogue with Vietnamese Youth on Monday under the theme “Vietnamese Youth Pioneering Science, Technology, Innovation, and Digital Transformation”, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh urged young people to be creative, take bold action, and turn aspirations into tangible, impactful projects. He encouraged them to push their limits, keep innovating, and contribute to national development.

In his letter to youth in 1947, President Ho Chi Minh said: "Youth are the future masters of the country. The nation's prosperity or decline, weakness or strength, depends largely on its youth."

Vietnamese youth are not just the beneficiaries of progress but also the driving force, carrying the responsibility of propelling the nation forward. Its 20 million young people will determine Vietnam’s position and influence in the digital age.
