A national scientific workshop on “Green Transition in Viet Nam – Theory and Practice” was held at the Academy of Journalism and Communication in Ha Noi on August 26.

In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Minh Son, Director of the Academy of Journalism and Communication, stressed that climate change and resource depletion pose existential challenges for humanity, making green transition an inevitable path. He recalled Viet Nam’s strong political commitment at COP26 to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, emphasising the need for joint action by the State, businesses, citizens, and the scientific community.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Trong Lam, Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Su That National Political Publishing House, underlined that green transition is not only a pressing requirement but also a deep restructuring of the growth model toward low emissions, resource efficiency, social equity, and improved quality of life. He called for discussions to focus on theory, international experiences, domestic realities, and feasible policy options to drive the green economy.

Presentations at the workshop highlighted key bottlenecks in Viet Nam’s transition, including fragmented legal frameworks, high costs of green technologies, and gaps between policy and practice. Scholars emphasised the importance of intersectoral and regional coordination, as well as the central role of businesses in innovation and participation in global supply chains with environmentally friendly products.
Speakers also pointed to the rise of green consumer markets, creating new opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises, while stressing that societal awareness and lifestyle changes are equally critical. Proposals included developing a national green taxonomy, establishing a carbon market, expanding green credit and bonds, and leveraging international finance. In agriculture, smart farming, agrovoltaics, electrification, and waste control were highlighted as viable solutions.

Concluding the workshop, Dr. Pham Minh Son affirmed that the outcomes will provide valuable input for policy-making, while fostering collective action and public awareness toward a sustainable and inclusive green future for Viet Nam.
The event was held by the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, in collaboration with the Academy of Journalism and Communication, the Su That National Political Publishing House, and the Academy of Public Administration.
